The World Baseball Classic will feature many members of baseball families, giving the new generation a chance to create their own moments.
One of the youngest names in the WBC is Lucas Ramirez, whose father, Manny, was a star in Major League Baseball for several teams, primarily the Boston Red Sox. Lucas, however, is representing Team Brazil instead of his father’s native Dominican Republic.
During exhibition games this week, Ramirez had a standout moment by homering off two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom. He hopes he and the rest of Team Brazil can pull off a huge upset when they face Team USA on Friday.
Here’s what you need to know about Lucas Ramirez.

Who is Manny Ramirez's son?
Manny Ramirez has three sons: Manny Ramirez Jr., Manuelito Ramirez, and Lucas Ramirez.
Manny’s youngest son, Lucas, is a 20-year-old outfielder who was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2024. Lucas initially committed to play for Tennessee out of high school but instead chose to sign with the Angels and go directly into an MLB organization.
While Manny Ramirez hails from the Dominican Republic, Lucas plays for Brazil because his mother is from São Paulo. This makes him eligible to represent three different countries in the WBC.
