Rutgers Hires Drake Assistant Evans as DL Coach

Rutgers football has hired former Drake defensive line coach Joe Evans as its new assistant defensive line coach. Evans joins the staff after one season at Drake.

Joe Evans, who spent the 2025 season as Drake's defensive line coach, will now work under Rutgers' new defensive line coach Dennis Dottin-Carter. During his time at Drake, Evans helped develop defensive linemen Jacob Auen (6 sacks), Nolan Korzeniowski (4 sacks), and Gene Blalock (4 sacks).

Evans had a standout college career at Iowa, recording 135 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, and 28 sacks. He notably had 4 sacks against Rutgers in a 2022 game, which Iowa won 27-10. After going undrafted, Evans briefly joined the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in 2024 before being released.
