Chargers Plan to Release Becton

The Los Angeles Chargers are planning to release veteran lineman Mekhi Becton in the coming days, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

The Chargers signed Becton to a two-year deal last March, but the contract included no guaranteed money for the 2026 season. By releasing him, the team would free up $9.7 million in cap space while incurring just $2.5 million in dead money.

Becton appeared in 15 regular-season games for the Chargers at right guard and started their playoff loss to the Patriots. The 2020 Jets first-round pick overcame early career injuries to earn a starting role with the Eagles in 2024, helping them to a Super Bowl win before joining Los Angeles.
