Rams interested in re-signing Tyler Higbee – if he wants to keep playing

Sean McVay isn’t closing the door on Tyler Higbee just yet.

Speaking to reporters, the Rams head coach said Higbee is still weighing his future, but made it clear Los Angeles would welcome him back if the veteran tight end decides to play in 2026.

Higbee is set to become an unrestricted free agent this month, and after everything he’s battled through the past few years, it makes sense that he’s taking his time.

Injuries have become part of Higbee’s recent story. He tore his ACL during the Rams’ wild-card loss to the Detroit Lions in January 2024, a brutal way to end that season. Then this past year, he suffered an ankle injury in Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks and was placed on injured reserve on November 19.

Still, Higbee pushed his way back. He was activated on January 3 ahead of Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals, returning in time for another playoff run.

Statistically, 2025 was modest by his standards – 25 catches for 281 yards and three touchdowns – but context matters. It was his 10th season in the league, and he was working his way back from a late injury, all while playing in a crowded tight end room that featured Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen, and rookie Terrance Ferguson.

The Rams originally drafted Higbee 110th overall in 2016, and over the course of his decade in Los Angeles, he’s been a steady presence in the offense. Across 10 seasons, he’s totaled 386 receptions for 3,949 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Now the question is simple: Does Higbee want to keep going?

If he does, it sounds like McVay and the Rams would be more than happy to run it back one more time.
