The first coaching staff for the Las Vegas Raiders under new head coach Klint Kubiak is now set, and the former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator didn’t exactly have too many of his fellow Seahawks assistants join him in the desert.
Apart from Kubiak, the only other members of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl winning staff to go to the Raiders were:
- Quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko (Raiders role: Offensive coordinator)
- Run game coordinator Rick Dennison (Raiders role: Offensive line coach)
The Raiders reportedly eyed Justin Outten for a lateral move to be run game coordinator, but as is their right, the Seahawks blocked it.
There is one hire who may catch your eye when you look at the Raiders list, however:
Why yes, defensive quality control coach Ketner Kupp is indeed the younger brother of Seahawks receiver Cooper Kupp. For a brief period in time they were teammates when Ketner was signed as a UDFA linebacker by the Los Angeles Rams in 2019, but he did not make the regular season roster.
Kubiak did retain a few assistants from Pete Carroll’s 2025 staff, including defensive coordinator Rob Leonard (who received a promotion to the role), pass game coordinator Joe Woods, assistant defensive line coach Kenyon Jackson, tight ends coach Luke Steckel, and senior vice president of coaching operations Matt Capurro.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald indicated at the NFL Scouting Combine that barring something unforeseen, there will be no additional departures from his staff. We should expect an announcement (including a formal job title for Daniel Stern) soon.
Good luck to Coach Kubiak in Vegas, although not so much good luck that the Raiders actually beat the Seahawks when they play in the regular season.
