Fans troll Mohammad Amir after India make T20 World Cup semifinals

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir was heavily trolled after India secured a place in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026. On Sunday, March 1, India beat the West Indies by five wickets in their Super 8 match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, chasing 196 with just four balls to spare.

Earlier in the tournament, Amir had said that Pakistan might or might not qualify, but India would definitely not make it to the top four. “Pakistan will qualify. Dekho, Pakistan kare na kare, India naaaa (It doesn't matter if Pakistan qualifies or not, India will not),” he said on Haarna Mana Hai, leaving even the show’s anchor surprised.

India, however, answered Amir on the field. After a heavy 76-run loss to South Africa at the start of the Super 8s, they bounced back strongly, defeating Zimbabwe at the Wankhede Stadium and then outplaying West Indies to secure a spot in the semifinals. Fans quickly took to social media to call out Amir for his early prediction.

Chasing 196 on a flat pitch, India faced an early setback, but Sanju Samson’s calm innings kept them on track. Tilak Varma, coming in at number 5, scored a quick 27 off 15 balls to help India pull off a thrilling win.

India achieved their highest successful chase in T20 World Cup history and the biggest T20I run chase ever at Eden Gardens. The win highlighted their strong batting lineup and calm under pressure.

The victory also had extra meaning, as it avenged India’s 2016 semifinal exit against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium. This time, India turned the tables, set new records at the iconic Kolkata ground, and settled old scores in style.
