Tadej Pogacar pourrait prolonger son contrat chez UAE Team Emirates

C’est en tout cas le souhait de Tadej Pogacar, qui est attendu vendredi pour négocier une prolongation de contrat chez UAE Emirates-XRG, selon le journaliste bien informé Daniel Benson. À la veille du grand départ, le Slovène et ses dirigeants devraient discuter d’une étendue de son contrat à une année supplémentaire, portant ainsi son bail jusqu’en 2031, comme un certain Isaac Del Toro, son coéquipier qu’il a aidé pour monter sur le podium du Tour de France (3e).
D’après Daniel Benson, des rumeurs établissaient même ce lundi que Tadej Pogacar avait déjà signé une extension de contrat de deux ans avec la formation émiratie. Ce qui a été démenti par son agent Alex Carera. Ce dernier ainsi que le patron de l’équipe Mauro Gianetti et le président Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni Al Dhaheri sont attendus autour de la table.

To their credit, the South African side never conceded the competitive spirit. Throughout the match, individual efforts, particularly attacking runs from the likes of Onthatile Zulu and Ntsopa Mokoena, constantly tested the Indian defence. This persistence was finally rewarded in the 55th minute when Kayla de Waal found the back of the net from a penalty corner, securing South Africa’s first goal of the tournament.
Reflecting on the match, the scoreline illustrates the punishing nature of top-tier international hockey, where defensive lapses in transition are quickly exploited. While the result is a difficult setback for the team’s World Cup ambitions, the goal-scoring breakthrough provides a small but necessary positive point of reference for the squad.

Sénégal : Patrick Vieira officiellement nommé sélectionneur des Lions
La Fédération sénégalaise de football (FSF) tourne définitivement la page Pape Thiaw. L’instance a annoncé, ce mardi 18 août 2026, la nomination de Patrick Vieira au poste de sélectionneur de l’équipe nationale du Sénégal. Le choix de l’ancien international français a été entériné à l’unanimité par le Comité d’urgence de la FSF.
« Ce choix stratégique marque une nouvelle étape dans la volonté de la FSF de mettre en place un encadrement technique de haut niveau, en parfaite adéquation avec les ambitions sportives de notre pays », lit-on dans le communiqué de la Fédération sénégalaise de football.
La FSF précise toutefois que les échanges relatifs aux modalités administratives et contractuelles de la prise de fonction du technicien se poursuivent entre les différentes parties.
« La date de la présentation officielle du nouveau Sélectionneur national, ainsi que les prochaines étapes de son installation, feront l’objet d’une communication ultérieure », ajoute l’instance.
Le champion du monde 1998 entame ainsi un nouveau chapitre de sa carrière d’entraîneur, cette fois à la tête des Lions du Sénégal.

Afrobasket U18 : Nathan Djako sacré MVP
Nathan Djako a marqué de son empreinte le FIBA Afrobasket U18 2026. À domicile, le jeune international ivoirien a largement contribué au sacre de la Côte d’Ivoire, victorieuse du Sénégal (73-51) en finale à Abidjan.
Du haut de ses 15 ans, Djako a livré une prestation remarquable dans le match décisif. Avec 22 points inscrits, il a été l’un des grands artisans de la victoire des Éléphants, qui ont conclu la compétition avec un bilan parfait de six victoires en autant de rencontres.
Une régularité qui lui a valu la distinction de MVP de la compétition. Sur l’ensemble du tournoi, Nathan Djako a affiché une moyenne de 17,5 points, 2 interceptions et 16,2 d’évaluation par match, confirmant son importance dans le parcours exceptionnel de la sélection ivoirienne.
Le jeune ivoirien figure également dans le Cinq majeur du tournoi, aux côtés du malgache Harinosy Rasetriarivony, du tchadien Ngaba Yaya, du camerounais James Minlend et du sénégalais Code Mbengue.
Avec ce titre continental et cette distinction individuelle, Nathan Djako s’impose comme l’une des révélations de cet AfroBasket U18 et l’un des grands espoirs du basketball ivoirien.

Williams taking nothing for granted
Springbok scrumhalf Grant Williams has revealed a personal edge to Saturday’s Test against New Zealand at Ellis Park, writes CLINTON VAN DER BERG.
Williams admitted he has family members who are All Blacks supporters, and that facing them, if selected, would carry extra significance at the dinner table for years to come.
“It will give me bragging rights [in the family] if we can get one up on them. So it will be a massive privilege, if selected, obviously.”

Asked whether the rivalry might make for an awkward Christmas at home, Williams laughed off the suggestion.
“No, not at all,” he smiled.
But throughout his comments, Williams was careful never to get ahead of himself, repeatedly stressing that the match 23 has not yet been confirmed by head coach Rassie Erasmus.
“We first got to wait till Thursday for the team announcement,” he said, “so it might be Cobus [Reinach], might be Krappies [Morné van den Berg], might be Herschel [Jantjies].”

Even when pressed on how he might approach a personal duel with an opposite number, Williams refused to make it about himself.
“If I get the honour to play on Saturday, it’s always good for me to put the team first,” he said. “I won’t be focused on my opposition. Obviously, I’ll study him, but if I get the opportunity, then my job is to make sure the team goes forward.”
That same team-first mentality, Williams explained, is exactly what makes South Africa’s scrumhalf depth so dangerous, and what keeps standards so high in camp. Asked about the competition within the group, he was clear that it sharpens everyone rather than creating division.
“If Cobus, Krappies or Herschel gets the opportunity, they’ll do the same,” he said, pointing to a squad culture where senior and junior players push each other upward rather than compete against one another.
“We don’t have younger guys trying to drag the more experienced guys down and vice versa. We think we’ve got a healthy level of competition, and it’s what makes team selection so difficult for us, because the guys all really care.”

Even amid the growing external noise around the fixture, Williams said he plans to stay firmly insulated from it.
“I’ll be in this bubble, so I won’t get to hear all of the things,” he said. “My only job is, if selected, to make sure the team goes forward and that I understand what the team needs. That will be my week, if selected.”
