UNC lands Michael Malone on $50M, 6‑year deal

The University of North Carolina has signed former Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone to a six‑year, $50 million deal, making him the second‑highest paid men’s college basketball coach.

Malone, who previously led the Nuggets to an NBA title, will bring championship experience to the Tar Heels. His $8.33 million average annual salary places him just behind Kansas’ Bill Self in the college ranks.

UNC’s move follows a four‑season slump after Roy Williams, and the new coach faces pressure to restore the program to championship contention.
