Rays Place McClanahan on IL with Back Tightness

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed ace Shane McClanahan on the 15-day injured list with lower back tightness, though the injury is described as minor.

Rays president Erik Neander confirmed the injury is "pretty minor" and McClanahan should only miss "two starts." Right-hander Alex Cook was called up from Triple-A Durham Bulls to provide bullpen depth.

Through 20 starts this season, McClanahan owns a 3.09 ERA and 9-6 record. The injury comes after he missed the 2024 season following Tommy John surgery. xsportfeed.quest
