Colorado QB Had Double Legal Alcohol Limit When Died

Colorado backup quarterback Dominiq Ponder had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he died in a single-car crash March 1, according to autopsy results.

Colorado backup quarterback Dominiq Ponder had a blood-alcohol content of 0.167 g/100 mL when he crashed his car and died in Boulder County March 1, more than twice the legal limit for driving under the influence in Colorado. The 23-year-old lost control of his Tesla while negotiating a curve, burst through a guardrail and hit an electrical pole, according to Colorado State Patrol.

Ponder's family has established The Dominiq Ponder 722 Foundation to promote responsible decision-making, provide scholarships for student-athletes and support community initiatives. Colorado plans to honor him with a jersey patch this season, and the Buffaloes will end spring football April 11 with an intrasquad scrimmage.
