Canadiens Clinch Playoff Spot Despite Loss to Devils

Montreal Canadiens secured their playoff spot on Sunday despite suffering a 3-0 shutout loss to the New Jersey Devils, which snapped their eight-game winning streak.

The Canadiens, who had just completed their longest winning streak in 10 days with an 8-game run, failed to capitalize on home ice advantage. Cole Caufield remained stuck on 49 goals as the team struggled offensively despite a solid defensive structure. The loss was Montreal's third shutout of the season.

The playoff berth was officially clinched when the Detroit Red Wings lost to the Minnesota Wild earlier in the day. With postseason secured, the Canadiens now set their sights on chasing the Atlantic Division-leading Tampa Bay Lightning. 'The challenge now is can we keep finding consistency,' said coach Martin St. Louis. 'If you have consistency in that, I think our good is good enough to keep playing hockey in April or May.'
