Brisbane Lions Secure Historic Three-Peat AFL Grand Final Victory

Published September 26, 2026 · Updated September 26, 2026 · The Guardian

The Brisbane Lions have secured a historic third consecutive AFL premiership with a dramatic four-goal final quarter surge to defeat Fremantle 14.12 (96) to 12.17 (89) at the MCG.

In a barely believable grand final, the defending premiers ended with a four-goal spree in the final four minutes, including the final two from Logan Morris. Fremantle led by 17 points when they activated 'Wharfie Time', but the Dockers folded as Brisbane finished like a freight train. catcross.org

The Lions became only the second team since 1981 to win a grand final after trailing at three-quarter time, following Geelong's comeback over St Kilda in 2009. The match began with a performance by Kylie Minogue featuring The Loco-Motion.
