Bello Says He Was Robbed of Strikeout in Season Debut

Red Sox rookie Brayan Bello said he was robbed of a strikeout in his season debut, forcing him to continue pitching after a walk in the fifth inning.

Bello finished 4.2 innings, 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts, 92 pitches. He had a strikeout against Astros outfielder Cam Smith, but after a walk he was forced to stay in the game, ending the inning and the game in a 9-2 loss.

Bello said he thought the first pitch was a strike and that the batter swung at the second, but the sequence was not counted, leaving him frustrated.
