Former Chilean President Jorge Alessandri requested FIFA amnesty for Garrincha in 1962 after a projectile struck the star during the World Cup semi-final.

Garrincha was expelled from the 1962 semi-final against Chile for kicking Eladio Rojas. As he left the field, a projectile from the stands hit him, the most celebrated player of that tournament.
