Mark Selby wins title of 2026 snooker China Open

Taiyuan: England's Mark Selby defeated Thailand's Noppon Saengkham 10-6 to claim the title of the 2026 World Snooker Tour China Open here on Sunday.

After the first session in which two players were deadlocked at 4-4, Selby pulled ahead 8-4 in the second.

Saengkham pulled one frame back, but Selby staged a dramatic comeback to move 9-5 ahead. Saengkham then fought back again to cut the deficit to 9-6.

In the 16th frame, Selby regained his form with precise shot-making and eventually sealed a 10-6 victory to win the match and secure the title.

"Today's match was very important to my career. I also learned a lot from the experience. I will continue to work hard in training and hope to become a champion in the future," Saengkham said after the match.

"I am very happy to win this title in China. It was a tough match, and I haven't played amazing shots in the final, but I think I performed well throughout the tournament," Selby said.

جاء ذلك خلال مؤتمر صحفي بحضور جميع وسائل الإعلام المحلية، حيث تم استعراض منصة «حيوه»، التي تقدم مفهوماً جديداً للتفاعل الرياضي يقوم على مكافأة الجمهور على مشاركته الفعلية، حيث تتيح للمستخدمين حضور الفعاليات الرياضية المؤهلة وجمع النقاط والتقدم عبر مستويات العضوية، ثم الاستفادة من رصيدهم للحصول على مجموعة متنوعة من المكافآت والعروض والتجارب لدى شبكة من الشركاء.

On August 27, the iconic venue will officially open its doors to basketball as Al Janoub Arena hosts Qatar’s clash with China in the fourth window of the Asian qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027.

More than a competitive fixture, the game will provide an early test of readiness and offer fans a glimpse of the World Cup experience, exactly one year before the global tournament begins.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 will stand apart as a landmark edition in the history of the competition. It will be the first World Cup hosted by an Arab country and the Middle East and North Africa region, and the first to be staged entirely within a single city, Doha.

For fans, this unique format will create the opportunity to attend more than one game in a single day.

The Qatar national basketball team continue to build their competitive momentum as the country advances its preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027. Qatar finished second in Group D of the first round of the Asian qualifiers with 10 points, behind Lebanon, to advance to the second round despite having already secured their place at the World Cup as hosts.
